Malloy’s Looking for Ideas… What Would YOU Do?

Ask, and ye shall receive.

Governor Malloy asked for ideas on how to create jobs and get Connecticut’s economy back on track. He got a 25-page proposal from 33 industry giants including MetroHartford Alliance CEO Oz Griebel, Connecticut Technology Council President Matthew Nemerson, and Liberty Bank CEO Chandler Howard.

So what could be coming down the pipeline, if Malloy listens to the voices of the business community?

  • Place a moratorium on any new regulations, excluding those that impact the public’s health and safety – that’d diminish efforts to maintain and grow Connecticut’s economy.
  • Establish “tax-free” zones in cities and surrounding regions with large concentrations of targeted industries – insurance, healthcare, etc.
  • Slash bureaucratic red tape.
  • Expand the current relationship between the Department of Economic and Community Development and the Metro chambers; reestablish regional field offices with chambers of commerce and other economic development organizations.
  • … and more.

There are some fairly good ideas in that article. That particular taskforce was one of 12 Malloy’s transition team put together, so it’s a pretty safe bet he’s got a lot to think about as he charts his path to get Connecticut back on the map (Hey, he’s already done it once, huh?!).

What do you all think, CSCPA? Agree? Disagree? If Malloy asked you what he needs to do to bring jobs back to Connecticut and continue moving forward, what would you tell him? I know some of you have some vocal clients… what do they need to see happen before they sign that contract to stay in Connecticut?
