Chance of sunshine for your weekend?

Here’s your weekend gift, from me.

With so much negativity in the news, from unemployment to a recession to fires on the west coast, let’s end our week on a happy note, shall we?

Here’s some encouraging news for you.

· Study: Conn. not that costly for manufacturers

Well, would you look at that. No, we haven’t been wrong all along – Connecticut is expensive for manufacturers. But we’re not the MOST expensive! Connecticut actually ranked 43rd in that study. But more importantly, Connecticut is less expensive for manufacturers that Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire – so manufacturers on the east coast may actually want to end up here!

· Fastest Growing Jobs in America

Hint: I included this because accounting made the list.

That’s right – accountants are right up there with nurses, biomedical engineers, and software engineers.

“While number crunching and bean counting has certainly not fallen out of style in recent memory, the economic fallout of the past few years has placed renewed focus on financial regulation,” the article reports. “And with the passage of the federal financial reform bill in June, companies will need an even larger cohort of auditors and accountants to parse through new regulations to make sure they are in compliance.

The accounting profession is poised to experience 22% growth between 2008 and 2018, with an anticipated 279,400 new jobs in the field by 2018, according to the BLS.”

Not a bad forecast for the future of our profession!

And along that lines, for those that like a little more immediate gratification…
